It's official - we have a new reigning PS4 exclusive which has, quite frankly, taken the world by storm. With the well-known game series being released two years ago, "God Of War" has only had success in pulling in more and more fans throughout the Playstation gaming community. However, it seems not even the creators over at Santa Monica Studios were quite prepared for the immense success that the newest continuation of the series would receive so quickly after it's initial release.

'God Of War' is now the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive of this generation

The game, which Sony released on April 20, had outstanding sales figures during its opening weekend sales with a mind-blowing 3.1 million copies having been sold, according to a new blog post from the game's creators. The game, which has an impressive 94 percent rating on Metacritic, has officially done a good job at outranking the previous record holder, "Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End," which sold 2.7 million copies worldwide in May 2016, according to Polygon.

The impressive statistics have set an entirely new standard of expectations that forth-coming games will be scrambling to achieve. It's safe to say that we won't be seeing a game achieve this extreme feat again for quite some time, even though new titles are constantly being introduced into the gaming industry, along with the PlayStation marketplace.

In a statement released by Santa Monica Studio, Shannon Studstill - the studio head - went on to express the shared joy and gratitude of the whole team behind the exceptional game by saying: “I would like to personally thank the millions of fans around the world who decided to embark on Kratos’ latest adventure with us.

Your support is truly inspiring, and it’s a reason why we push ourselves every day to go beyond the boundaries of play.”

Looking at the response that the game has received throughout the gaming community, it's really no wonder that it received such a welcoming during its debut weekend.

Both existing fans of the franchise and new players were clearly keen on getting their hands on a copy of the new game, and they definitely won't find themselves disappointed any time soon. With amazing visuals and intense storytelling, "God Of War" has been deemed a commercial success.

According to Forbes.com, the game is an ensured contender for the feel-good game of the year, which is backed by reviewers claiming that they expect the game to become one of the best selling titles in the history of Sony.
