An artist recently shared an “#Overwatch” map based on Cairo, Egypt. The first-person shooter from Blizzard has become one of the most successful first-person shooter titles in the gaming world today. While the statistics are always the accurate basis, fans getting inspired by the game is also a good indicator. It is not the first time that a fan has created something based on Blizzard’s popular title. In fact, since it was launched in May 2016, there are already numerous videos, maps, and other interesting creations made by fans and inspired by the game.

New map

On Reddit, a user named Joshua12g shared a teaser video of a new #Cairo Map inspired by “Overwatch.” If you take a look at the video, it could pass for a Blizzard creation.

The map has received praises and positive comments from players. Upon digging into the background of the creator, it turns out that he is the same guy who made the Favela Map. In August, the Favela map [VIDEO] made headlines in several gaming websites. It is set in Rio de Janero, Brazil and shows several notable landmarks in the place. This includes the massive Christ the Redeemer statue.

The Artist

The artist’s real name is Joshua Ilorente and he used Unreal Engine 4 on his latest Cairo map. According to the artist, he is still working on the Cairo map. He noted that since this map is bigger than his previous creation, it would take months before finally completing it. Ilorente shared that he also used 3ds Max, Photoshop, and Substance Painter for his latest masterpiece.

He also shared that he starts with basic sketches and layout for the map.

However, along the way, he admitted that there would be several changes and revisions. The artist is a college student currently working on his thesis and only creates the map in his free time.

Currently, there is no Cairo map in Blizzard’s popular first-person shooter title. The game developer might want to take a look at this artist’s map. One of the reasons why the game has a massive player base is because it never runs out of maps. Aside from regularly updating the game with contents, Blizzard regularly infuses a new map.

Fans are currently enjoying the new Escort Map Junkertown [VIDEO]. It was revealed through a video by Junkrat and Roadhog. The voiceover of the Junk Queen in the background of the walkthrough video even triggered speculations that she could be the next game hero. A follow-up Comic titled “Wasted Land” was released soon after.

Meanwhile, you can check out below the Cairo map. “Overwatch” is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
