The hit open-world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks, "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," gets a neat new update that is sure to add an element of realism in a game that is loosely based on fantasy. The game is set in Skyrim, a fictional province ruled by the Empire on the continent of Tamriel. The player will take the role of a Dragonborn, a mortal born with the soul and power of a dragon.

In Skyrim, the player will encounter various mythical races like Elves, Argonians (lizard-like creatures), Khajiits (cat-like beasts), Orcs, and of course, Men.

Those who play the game will also get to see, summon and trap dragons and travel the vast, open world of Skyrim. Its unique fantasy based character development and setting gained positive reviews from critics and fans, from its launch until today, "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" is still considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time. The game continues to get support through DLC's (downloadable contents) which keeps Skyrim a relevant and an exciting game to play.

Through the newest update, players will have to deal with three new elements we are all familiar with: hunger, fatigue, and harsh weather. Though being that of a Dragonborn, via the new 'Survival mode,' the player's main character is subjected to these survival systems.

Hunger

The player's character is largely affected by its stomach. As it is in real life, one has to eat to stay alive. An empty stomach affects stamina as well as one's ability to use certain weapons, players will find it hard to take up arms and continue quests without proper sustenance. In survival mode, you just can't fight with an empty stomach.

Should players make sure that their characters are properly nourished, they will earn a "Well Fed" bonus achievement.

In survival mode, the player will also have to prepare a proper meal for their character. Eating raw, uncooked food will eventually cause food poisoning and will interfere with one's ability to recover health.

On the other hand, savory meals that are properly fixed will allow the character player to recover faster.

Fatigue

Players must find time to rest every now and then, the effectiveness of potions will drop as well as stamina, and Magicka recovery rate will decrease for weary adventurers. Further health regeneration and leveling up requires sleep, a cup of coffee or a can of Monster Energy won't do the character any good.

One should take note that sleeping in a bed will provide better fatigue recovery compared to sleeping outdoors.

Weather

In Skyrim's latest update, parts of the map will reflect varying climates in different regions. Careful preparation will be key to survival when traveling to avoid freezing to death.

Players can survive by preparing the proper armor and clothing, or by warming up near a fire. A hot soup will also work like magic in frigid conditions.

The update to "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition" will be made available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4. A beta version is now made available for those playing it on PC while those who immerse themselves in Skyrim using the Xbox One and PS4 consoles will get it next month.
