Many fans speculated on what could possibly be included as pre-order bonuses with “Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA.” With just under a month left before release, Nis America announced that early buyers can download three pieces of DLC that will be available for one week from when the game launches.

What is included in the DLC?

As suggested by the title, the DLC is focused on Adol, the protagonist for the latest entry in the long running franchise. Players that download the DLC will receive two new outfits for the warrior. The first entitled as Adventurer Clothes and the second is a nice new Silver Armor.

The third DLC is a survival kit containing a few different useful items. The kit includes a Blade Ring II, some Iron Ore, and an empty bottle. Honestly, it is not a lot to get excited over, but these early DLCs tend to be designed to provide an extra boost for the first few hours of gameplay before moving on to better items.

A new trailer has been released for 'Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA'

To accompany the announcement of the DLC, NIS America released a brand new trailer for “Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA.” Expectantly, the video is primarily focused on Adol and is a mix of CGI scenes and a bit of gameplay sprinkled throughout.

The PS Vita version of Nis America's RPG has been out in Japan since 2016, with the PS4 port launching in May of this year.

It has garnered a mostly positive reception, with most critics praising the fast paced battle system and the enjoyable storyline.

Ys VIII" is the first entry in the franchise to receive a port on a platform other than the PS Vita since “Ys Seven” in 2009. The series dates back to 1987, when “Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished” launched on the PC-8801.

Since that title, eight main games and five side stories have been released bearing the “Ys” name.

Something that makes NIS America and Famicom's franchise unique is that it has been primarily a PC and portable JRPG. While massive franchises like “Final Fantasy” are just starting to make the transition to PC gaming, “Ys” is slowly becoming a stable on home consoles.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA” will be released on the PS4, PS Vita, and Windows on September 12, 2017. For those new to the franchise, the gameplay is frantic and feels very much like a hack and slash title. It is designed to reward players with quick reflexes. The plot is nothing particularly original but is filled with passion and detail. The cast tends to be well developed as well.
