Before Niantic launched Battle Raids in "Pokemon GO," PokeGyms were always ruled by exactly the same Pokemon species such as Snorlax, Vaporeon, Blissey, etc. However, two of these past PokeGym powerhouses seems to have been lost in the shuffle and for good reasons.

These two Pokemon powerhouses we are referring to are Snorlax and Blissey. Even though these two Pokemon has been regularly dominating PokeGyms everywhere in the past, they seem inefficient with the current legendary battle raid system.

Why are Snorlax and Blissey inefficient?

The main reason for this is that Snorlax and Blissey are both great for defensive purposes.

Which does not translate well in legendary battle raids.

In legendary raids, the name of the game is to deal as much damage as you can in the fastest way possible. As there is a time limit of 300 seconds that you need to beat, in order to get a chance to catch the legendary pocket monster.

Big and slow

Fast attacks are also not one of Snorlax and Blissey’s strengths. Both Pokemon is in the top 4 of highest stamina numbers currently in the game. The huge downside to this, especially with legendary battle raids is that the higher the stamina, the slower it could power up its charge move. That simply means, although Snorlax and Blissey can deal a significant amount of damage with Hyper Beam, they are just not that efficient.

Obsolete against legendaries

Other than that, Snorlax and Blissey are both normal type Pokemon, which is obviously not the perfect choice in order to counter and deal significant damage to either Lugia, Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos. And generally, they are also not the right type against the rest of the legendary Pokemon both in Gen 1 and Gen 2 that is yet to be added to the raids.

So just a friendly reminder, don’t get your hopes high on using your Snorlax and Blissey anytime soon.

Best Pokemon to use against legendaries

As of the moment, only Moltres and Lugia are currently available for battle raids. If you are bummed that you cannot use Snorlax or Blissey against these two, don't worry as you only need one Pokemon to have a good fighting chance.

Your best bet against Lugia, Moltres, and even Zapdos, who is scheduled for release on August 13, is a Tyranitar with Bite and Stone Edge. Tyranitar is a rock/dark type Pokemon in which all three legendaries are vulnerable to. Moltres and Zapdos are both weak against rock type attacks. While Lugia on the other hand, who's a psychic and flying type Pokemon, is weak against dark and rock type moves such as Bite and Stone Edge.
