Okami” is reportedly making its way into the current generation consoles, as another HD update is planned for the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. It should be noted that this is just a rumor, and might not come to pass, but more than one distributor has reported that the game will be available for purchase on December 12, 2017.

This also suggests that “Okami” is receiving a physical release, which was not the case for when the title was remastered for the previous generation.

'Okami' is one of the best action adventure video games

Developed by Clover Studios, before they were rebranded as Platinum Games, and published by Capcom, “Okami” originally came out on the PlayStation 2 in 2006.

It received universal critical acclaim and quickly earned a reputation as one of the best games on the console.

Its popularity grew to the point that an HD remake was created for the PlayStation 3 and released in 2012. Due to the lack of any substantial information, it is currently not known how the new remake will vary from the one released five years ago. Clover Studios decided to use a colorful Japanese watercolor art style for “Okami”, as it suited the story they were trying to tell, resulting in a timeless visual style that still looks fantastic today.

The fact that the PlayStation 2 did not support HD served as justification for the first remaster, but it is hard to comprehend how Capcom plans to re-vamp the game for the current generation.

As a trailer has yet to be released, if this rumor ends up being true, it is hard to believe that it will be anything other than a port of the PlayStation 3 version.

The gameplay compares favorably to modern titles

Okami” does not really require any big updates, especially in the gameplay department. The platforming was responsive and fun, and the combat system remains one of the best Clover Studios have designed.

The only real criticism is that the story can drag, mostly due to its 60 hour run time.

Players control Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun, who has access to an array of weapons, combos and brush attacks that can be used while in the middle of a battle. The celestial brush is a one of a kind gameplay mechanic which allows players to pause the game and summon a canvas. Once on screen, they can draw images to pull off attacks. It is an interesting feature that suits the story perfectly.

The plot is based on Japanese Folklore and is faithful to the source material.
