Much to the dismay of those who have been clamoring for the next installment in Rockstar Games' hit western action-adventure video game 'Red Dead Redemption,' the game developer recently revealed that the release of the hotly anticipated sequel has been pushed back.

Rockstar Games attributed the delayed launch to their decision to outfit 'Red Dead Redemption 2' with cross-play. In other words, 'RDR2' could launch with cross-platform multiplayer between PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

New release date and other details

According to a report from Comicbook, Rockstar is constantly in touch with Sony and Microsoft regarding the inclusion of cross-platform multiplayer on the aforesaid consoles for "Red Dead Redemption 2." If this comes to fruition, 'RDR' fanatics will be able to play with their friends regardless of whether they have a PS4 or Xbox One.

Details about exactly how the negotiations are going are hard to come by. However, the publication predicts the deal is highly unlikely to come through as this will interfere with Sony's recent commitment to block cross-play. But 'RDR' fans should not lose hope just yet.

Negotiations between Rockstar Games and Sony

Despite the lack of an official confirmation, there is still a possibility that cross-play for the ‘RDR’ sequel could become a reality. The publication cited multiple sources that confirmed that talks were in progress. Back in May, Rockstar told the huge fanbase of 'RDR,' that the sequel to the game will not hit the store shelves in the fall of 2017 despite the game developer's earlier promise.

Now, 'RDR2' is slated to arrive in the spring of 2018.

Rockstar clarified that 'Red Dead Redemption 2' is the studio's first game that was created right from scratch for the current generation of console hardware. For this reason, Rockstar explained that extra time is required in order to make sure they deliver an experience that is nothing short of perfect.

The company apologized for the delay and noted that it believes in not offering a game even before its ready. More shreds of information about the game are likely to surface online this summer. In addition to this announcement, Rockstar released a slew of new screenshots in order to build more hype surrounding 'RDR2.'

Meanwhile, Rockstar continues to remain tight-lipped regarding the game's highly requested ‘RDR2’ PC version, but more details are likely to surface online sooner rather than later. Stay tuned in here for more 'Red Dead' series related news and updates!
