With the Dive meta still a pretty popular strategy in “Overwatch,” it can get quite challenging when trying to defend a point. Characters like Tracer and Genji or D.Va and Winston are extremely skilled at getting in and out of combat while being a great distraction. Luckily, there are a few heroes that can counter the enemy team if they try to rush and push their way through to the point. Here are some heroes that act as the perfect solution to the dive meta.
McCree, Reaper
First and foremost, you’ll need some good DPS if you’re going to get some kills.
Flankers like Tracer and Genji can run around the field as much as they like, but McCree has his Flashbang ability that can stun his target in place. A well-timed Flashbang could easily lead to a simple headshot kill or “fan the hammer combo.” Meanwhile, Reaper is a great hero to use when facing against tanks like Winston or D.Va. With his health regen buff, the character has little to fear so long as he can land direct shots on his enemies.
Winston, Roadhog, Orisa
Tanks will usually be in charge of defending their team, harassing opponents, and punishing enemies that are out of place. Winston is a great harasser and can easily disrupt opponents like Lucio, Mercy, and Zenyatta. If they try to escape, he has access to his jump skill to chase after them and kill them off.
Meanwhile, Roadhog might have gotten a major nerf, but he’s still pretty viable as long as you know how to use him. Since the dive meta requires precise teamwork, there will be times when the enemy will have a few players that aren’t doing their job or are out of place. Roadhog can easily punish them with a hook combo for an easy kill or to at least keep them away from their team.
Finally, Orisa has recently become a popular pick as she can throw her barriers wherever she wants. Having a good defense is a necessity in the dive meta so Orisa’s skills, especially Fortify, will help keep Orisa and her allies alive.
Choose your support
There is a major struggle that comes with playing as a support character in the dive meta season.
Flankers are a healer’s worst nightmare, especially when your team is too busy fighting off other enemies. Heroes like Tracer and Winston can distract Lucio, Mercy, Zenyatta, and Ana from doing their job. The best you can do is stay by your team while constantly looking out for any enemies that might approach from behind. Heroes like Mercy and Lucio have access to their mobility skills as an escape while Ana only has her sleep dart. Zenyatta doesn’t have any escape skills and instead relies on his attacks plus Discord Orb to kill his pursuers.
