Overwatch” has become one of the most popular games over the past year and one major reason for this is because of the many events the game holds. Starting off last year with the Summer Games, Blizzard has included other events like Halloween, Christmas, Chinese New Year, and even its first lore celebration – Uprising. As the game embraces diversity, there are plenty of holidays comingfrom different cultures that can be incorporated into the first-person shooter. With being said, here are some special occasions that would make perfect events in “Overwatch.”

White Day

This special day is usually celebrated in Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan and China on March 14.

White Day takes place a month after Valentine’s Day where, in Japan, a woman will give chocolates to their men as a sign of love or social obligation. Japan-Zone shares White Day is the complete opposite of Valentine's as men who received sweets are expected to return the favor by giving women cookies, white chocolate, jewelry, and the like. Instead of the typical Valentine’s Day, “Overwatch” could try something different with White Day instead. Male characters like Hanzo or Genji could get white suits as skins while females could have some highlight intros or victory poses that have something to do with receiving chocolate or jewelry.

Holi

This Hindu festival marks the arrival of spring and is better known as the Festival of Color which celebrates love, fertility, and color, The Independent advise.

This special occasion is held on March 24 and is usually associated with bright colored power that is thrown at participants. Holi is actually split into two events: Holika Dahan and Rangwali Holi with the former taking place the night before Rangwali Holi. The main celebration takes place the next day where celebrants gather in public spaces and chase each other while throwing gulal (colored powder) at one another.

Seeing that Holi is such a bright and fun occasion, it would make for a perfect event in Blizzard’s first-person shooter.

Earth Day

Earth Day is a special occasion where people come together and try to give back to mother Earth. To show their support, people hold festivals, rallies, and outdoor activities while advocating ways to save the planet.

Seeing how “Overwatch” takes its core values from the planet, Earth Day would be a suitable event for the game. This could also help promote environmental preservation by giving characters cosmetic items that link to recycling or planting trees.
