Pokémon GO is a beloved game in the franchise which makes use of augmented reality technology to give players a unique experience, unlike anything they may have played before. The game involves players venturing outside with their smartphones in search of Pokémon which show up across real locations on the smartphone’s display. These fantastical creatures can then be captured by the players, similar to the animated series from which the game is inspired.

Niantic Labs, the developers of the game, have been able to create a game that is fun and which also encourages people playing it to go outside unlike other video games.

Throughout July, the developers are celebrating the one year anniversary of the popular mobile game. As part of this celebration, Niantic has now announced that some Legendary Pokémon will be available for fans to get their hands on.

Niantic announcement

In a post, Niantic Labs claimed that it would make Legendary Pokémon, which have not been available yet, show up inside the game. They said that during raids and battles, users should keep an eye out for Legendary Pokémon eggs inside the Gym. These eggs will be protected by Legendary Raid Boss. If the Boss is defeated by the player, then they will be able to claim their very own Legendary Pokémon.

However, there are some restrictions that Niantic have put in place to maintain the balance in the overall game.

The developers said that even if a Legendary Pokémon is captured by a player, they will not be able to keep that Pokémon in the Gym to defend it from attacks. The Legendary Pokémon can be used to go up to Raid Bosses and Gym Fights.

‘Pokémon GO’ Fest on July 22

On July 22, thousands of ‘Pokémon GO’ players will compete in Grant Park, Chicago along with millions of people around the world to unlock new in-game items and bonuses up for grabs.

These bonuses will be unlocked for the whole game community and not just the player unlocking it. If the players can capture enough number of Pokémon at the “Pokémon GO Fest Challenge Windows,” then the first Legendary Pokémon will be unveiled in Grant Park.

Niantic further stated that if the people in Chicago can defeat the Legendary Pokémon launched at the event, only then will it start appearing in random Raid Battles for players around the world after the fest comes to an end. This is a highly innovative concept and may turn out to be a big hit among the fans of the game.
