Square Enix released a new game trailer for "Kingdom Hearts 3" featuring "Toy Story" as the latest Disney world. Details regarding a second playable character and the gaming company's plan to release a Nintendo Switch version were unveiled at the recently concluded D23 expo.

Sora meets Woody and Buzz Lightyear

It was during the D23 Expo event that Square Enix showcased a new game trailer for "Kingdom Heart 3" wherein Sora, Donald Duck and Goofy landed in the world of "Toy Story." Upon arriving at the new Disney world, Sora, Goofy and Donald discovered that they are in Andy's room as his new toys.

The trio soon discovered that the Heartless invaded the room and a small gameplay fight ensued.

After defeating the Heartless, Sora and the gang are greeted by "Toy Story" characters Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Rex, Hamm, the LGMs and Sarge's Army Men platoon. Woody and Buzz explained to Sora that the Heartless recently came to their world right after some of their friends disappeared. Buzz also pointed out that the Heartless did not come alone as a black hooded figure was leading them, a member of Organization XIII.

Sora's group join forces with Woody and Buzz to stop the Heartless and save their friends. Their next location is at Galaxy Toys and Woody and Buzz will act as guest characters fighting alongside Sora, Goofy and Donald against numerous Heartless monsters.

Two new Keyblade transformations are revealed in the trailer: a hammer and a drill based on the two "Toy Story" characters.

The gang soon found out that Xemnas was the one leading the Heartless. The trailer ends with a tease that the release date for the PlayStation 4 will be this 2018.

A new playable character

Aside from the new D23 Expo trailer, game director Tetsuya Nomura and developers are planning to have a second Playable Character in "Kingdom Hearts 3" besides Sora.

Nomura explained the difficulties of adding and developing numerous characters into the sequel.

"So it would be tough to introduce many, multiple characters, but there is an intention of adding a playable character aside from Sora," Nomura said. "Unfortunately, we're not able to disclose who it is yet, but there will be [another playable character]."

Gaming fans are guessing that this new playable character could be one of Sora's friends and fellow Keyblade wielders.

Riku and King Mickey were featured as playable characters in past "Kingdom Hearts" games and Kairi has been receiving Keyblade training before the events of the third game. Aqua is also rumored to return to the sequel as both King Mickey and Riku will likely find a way to rescue her.

Nomura teased a new party system in "Kingdom Hearts 3" that will allow additional party members to join the group. The new system will be able to depict multiple characters and be its replacement to the "D-Link" feature used in "Birth By Sleep."

Nintendo Switch version coming soon

Nomura is considering the possibility of "Kingdom Hearts 3" in the Nintendo Switch platform. However, he told IGN that they will first release them to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles before planning to launch the game in different platforms.

The game director did not also dismiss the possibility of releasing HD collections of "Kingdom Hearts" in the Xbox One console, but he is unsure if there is demand for such outside of the Western region.

Gaming fans will have to wait for more updates on "Kingdom Hearts 3" this year before its intended release sometime next year for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles.
