The unending rivalry between Sony and Microsoft continues to expand as the two giant gaming brands release their free games for the month of June. Sony's PlayStation Plus has more titles under its platforms whereas the Xbox Live Games With Gold is limited to two titles for each platform. Games from these features are free to all members of each feature. However, members can also acquire the games at a discounted price.

PlayStation Plus free games for the month of June

  • PS4: Life is Strange at 85% off
  • PS3: WRC 5: World Rally Championship at 62% off
  • PS4: Killing Floor 2 at 75% off
  • PS3: Abyss Odyssey at 70% off
  • PS Vita: Neon Chrome and (crossbuy with PS4) at 63% off
  • PS Vita: Spy Chameleon and (crossbuy with PS4) at 71% off

Registered members of PlayStation Plus can take advantage of these free games provided they have a good standing account.

Games are only available for the indicated month. Failure to download them before the expiry means purchasing the games on their regular price.

Here's what's available in June - Xbox Gold

  • Xbox One: Speedrunners at 84% off
  • Xbox One: Watch Dogs at 78% off
  • Xbox One & Xbox 360: Assassin's Creed III at 84% off
  • Xbox One & Xbox 360: Dragon Age: Origins at 86% off

It's noticeable how the "Assassin's Creed III" and "Dragon Age: Origins" have both joined the Xbox One backwards compatibility list. Interestingly, PlayStation Europe's Jim Ryan made a distinct comment about the backwards compatibility feature, noting the insignificance of the feature. Despite admitting that the BC feature is highly requested by players, the number of players who actually play the games do not compliment the hype.

In an interview with Time, Ryan said "That, and I was at a Gran Turismo event recently where they had PS1, PS2, PS3 and PS4 games, and the PS1 and the PS2 games, they looked ancient, like why would anybody play this?" As opposed to the success the feature has brought to Microsoft, the company continues to add new titles as a token of appreciation to fans who patronized the Xbox 360 and who have migrated to the Xbox One console.

Meanwhile, PlayStation Plus members can still grab some of the games offered for May mainly, "Abzu" for North America players only, "Alienation" for Europe only, "Laser Disco Defenders," "Tales from the Borderlands," "Type: Rider," "Blood Knights" and "Port Royale 3: Pirates and Merchants."

Next month will have an all new featured titles for both Xbox Live Games with Gold and PlayStation Plus.
