At E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) 2017, Sony has unveiled a series of brand new virtual reality games for it’s latest PSVR headset which was launched eight months ago. PlayStation VR is a $399 virtual reality headset that is coupled with the PlayStation 4 for wraparound alternate reality experiences. Sony also announced that it has sold more than one million PlayStation VR headsets till now, thus emphasizing the fact that there is already a great demand for the PlayStation sets in the market. "In 2017 it continues to be all about the games," said Shawn Layden, President and Chief Executive of Sony Interactive Entertainment America, as he started with the showcase.

Unlike Microsoft, which had no new strategy or news related to VR, Sony’s E3 event was eye-catching and full of visually captivating teasers of these new VR games that are being launched.

Upcoming games to be launched for the PlayStation VR headset

Sony disclosed the next God Of War game title which is simply titled 'God of War'. The game is a new version of the series and shifts focus towards the Norse Mythology. The lead character of the God of War series called ‘Kratos’ is still present and now his son Atreus is going to be there with him. ‘God of War’ will be a PS4 exclusive game and is likely to be launched in early 2018.

Sony also showcased the much anticipated Spider-Man game at E3 2017.

This game is being developed by Insomniac Games, the group behind popular PlayStation games such as "Resistance" and "Song of the Deep". The game features Wilson Fisk who was popularized by Netflix's Daredevil as a minor villain. This game will be filled with awesome stunts, amazing visuals and is going to be a PS4 exclusive.

It does not have a definite release date yet, but it is expected to be released sometime in the middle of 2018.

The reason why Sony has the edge over Microsoft:

Skyrim is an action role-playing game which is supposed to be launched for Nintendo’s switch. At the E3 Skyrim was also revealed to be available in PlayStation VR from November 2017.

Star Child is a VR game from the developer of Lucky's Tale. Star Child appears darker in style and is most likely set in an alien world, full of mysterious creatures, spaceships, and giant robots. From the teaser, the game sure looks visually impressive. However, the date or time of its launch is yet unknown.

Another VR title which created quite a buzz is The Inpatient by Supermassive Games. This game is completely different from the others discussed so far and it belongs to the psychological thriller genre. The game will probably involve decision making which will decide how the story unfolds.

Apart from this, Sony also introduced a new feature for PlayStation owners called ‘PlayLink’, which makes multiplayer mode possible with the help of smartphones.
