Just recently, the entire community of “Gta 5” was in a shock following the closure of Open IV, a popular modding tool for the crime-themed game. Apparently, the creators behind it received a Cease and Desist letter from Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two. Now, the developers of the titular title have issued an official statement regarding the controversial shutdown.

The tool mentioned above has been utilized by “GTA 5” players for nearly ten years already; hence the news came as a shock to the fandom. Ironically, the video game company has been supportive when it comes to modding since day one.

In fact, they even went to the point of featuring mods on their official website. So, in a sense, it is a wonder why its parent company resorted to such decision.

Studio issues official statement

Apparently, though, Take-Two’s moves and decisions do not reflect and/or speak for Rockstar Games. This is why the popular video game company issued an official statement regarding the matter. They iterated that, in one way or another, this is not a form of attack to all single player mods out there. The move was made solely because there was a present use of malicious mods believed to have come from Open IV.

“Take-Two’s actions were not specifically targeting single player mods,” the studio said in the statement.

Unfortunately for the creator of the “GTA 5” modding tool, it enables any malicious mods that only opens to possible harassment of players. This exploit even interferes with the game’s overall experience. Thus the parent company decided to make a dramatic move. The video game company promised to continue working and supporting the game’s creative community without the worry of affecting players’ in-game experience.

Mods on PC will not be happening anymore

Thanks to the recent shutdown of the “GTA 5” modding tool, it is likely for mods to be scarce on the PC version of the game. Unfortunately for the developers of the game, this is among the biggest reasons why gamers play the game on the said platform. This even comes as a dagger to the people who make a living out of producing mods and even online content focused on the mods above.

What remains a mystery, however, is that Rockstar has yet to unearth what other mods continue to affect “GTA 5” negatively. This is why some, if not all, players and critics alike are still pushing for information from the studio. Perhaps, once this controversy goes down, everything will be unveiled by the company.
