#Atari confirms that it is in the process of making a brand-new console that will soon be launched in the gaming market. There were speculations earlier about the possible release of the company’s gaming console and it was just recently that these reports were confirmed directly by the company’s executive. It appears that the company is now set to jump into the highly competitive video gaming industry that it was once a part of. With the latest Microsoft Xbox One X launch, a hybrid console from Nintendo, and a PlayStation 4 from Sony, the company must introduce something to get the interest of the gamers.

He revealed this interesting information in an interview with Games Beat during the E3 2017 event. The CEO said that the company is making a comeback in the gaming console business. The company recently released a mysterious video hinting at new hardware dubbed the #Ataribox.

The video, which you can view below, does not give many details about the upcoming console. We can only infer that it will have a wood-grain design at launch. Chesnais further mentioned that the upcoming console will be founded on PC technology. He said that currently, the design of the system is still not finalized but assured that more details will be shared soon.

What should the gaming industry expect?

At this point, it is hard to imagine that Atari will release a gaming console that can take on the likes of Xbox One X, PlayStation 4 Pro, or Nintendo Switch.

Most probably, the company will produce something that would ride on the fame of the NES Classic Edition and the retro games. The feat of Nintendo’s retro console was welcomed warmly by gamers. As the console brought back nostalgic games to old gamers, it introduced these classic titles to a new breed of young gamers as well.

In 1993, the company released their last gaming console in North America which was named the Atari Jaguar. In 2013 the company filed for bankruptcy protection and was not heard from again. Chesnais bought the company and promised to revive it. Chesnais new company is now making money and is busy developing mobile games. In addition, it is licensing its brands including the #Blade Runner 2049 movie. It appears that Atari is back now with the Ataribox, and the Flashback 8 Gold that is releasing in September of this year.
