Those who opt for vegetarianism face less risk of suffering from a Heart Failure, as revealed by a study conducted by scientists from Icahn School of Medicine in New York. This is because processed meats and fatty foods lead to health complications which occur less in cases of people who choose a Vegetarian Diet.

In fact, such a diet reduces the risk to the heart by almost half. In the opinion of scientists who conducted the research, a preferred diet for a healthy heart should consist of whole grains, fish, beans, and dark green leafy plants. It has been suggested that lovers of a trouble-free lifestyle should avoid refined carbohydrates, saturated fats, processed meats etcetera.

Food is linked to heart disease

The Daily Mail reports that coronary heart disease accounted for a large number of deaths every year in Britain with an average of 190 people every day. The study conducted by Icahn School of Medicine in New York was spread out over a four year period. It involved different types of diet ranging from red meats to plant-based food, sweets, and alcohol. One of the findings was that improper diet can result in the narrowing of arteries leading to heart failure.

The team used data collected from persons in the age group of 45+ and the number of participants was more than 15,000. They had to report in a specially designed questionnaire on what they ate. The foods were from the five dietary patterns identified by the team.

It was found that the plant-based vegetarian diet was best suited to provide less risk of malfunctioning of the heart. Obviously, a change in food habit and lifestyle can reduce health issues.

Conclusions of the study

The study recommends embracing a plant-based vegetarian diet to ensure a healthy lifestyle where the possibilities of a heart failure would be comparatively less.

The diet should include dark green leafy plants, fruits, beans, whole grains, and fish. The intake of processed meats, saturated fats, and refined carbohydrates should be avoided.

Healthcare is a major problem that people have to face, and the modem day lifestyle is fast paced with food also on the fast track. That leads to health issues which can have serious consequences.

The intention should be to enjoy life, and not be tied down by ill-health and doses of medicine. Many people go to the gym for workouts to maintain a good health. Another option is to become a vegetarian. It not only keeps the heart healthy but brings us closer to nature.
