Everybody knows a popsicle is refreshing on a hot summer day. Whether you want a special treat after mowing the grass or after a long sweaty workout, a beer and grapefruit popsicle will be a cool treat. It is full of electrolytes, healthy carbohydrates, and vitamins. If you have never heard of a Beer and grapefruit popsicle, keep reading.

Beer contains electrolytes

Not many people think of beer as a healthy ingredient, but a little bit of beer can help the body after any physical activity when combined with healthy ingredients. When a person does physical activities, electrolytes are lost during sweaty sessions.

Examples of common electrolytes that the body needs include calcium, chlorine, magnesium, potassium, phosphate, and sodium. Beer becomes healthy because it contains electrolyte and replaces those that are lost.

Beer also contains alcohol that is dehydrating.

That's why the beer is combined with other ingredients that are also rich in electrolytes and healthy carbohydrates, such as grapefruit juice, honey and a little bit of salt. Vitamin C in the grapefruit juice is an antioxidant that reduces sore muscles.

Don't think you will find beer and grapefruit popsicles in the ice cream section of your local grocery store. You will need to make them yourself. They are quick and easy to make. You will need only a few ingredients, including one medium grapefruit, one tablespoon of honey, one 12-ounce can of beer and a pinch of salt for added electrolytes.

Any brand of beer will work in this recipe. Therefore, you do not need to buy an expensive brand.

Simply squeeze the juice from the grapefruit into a bowl. Add the honey and whisk with a fork until the honey dissolves into the mix. Honey is added to buffer the tartness of the grapefruit. Slowly add the can of beer and salt.

Stir and make sure all ingredients are combined. Pour mixture into popsicles molds and freeze for three hours. If you do not have popsicle molds, freeze the mixture in an ice tray.

If you can't wait three hours, you can simply pour the liquid into a glass of over ice and drink. Since the mixture makes about two glasses, share with a family member, friend or neighbor.

If you do make popsicles, keep them out of reach of children. It would be a good idea to have regular popsicles on hand just for them.

It is not a requirement to drink your beer and grapefruit popsicles only after a workout or after mowing your lawn. You can enjoy your popsicles at any time.
