Lego sets are some of the most creative and diverse toys we've ever seen. Many sets come with instructions on what to build, but there's nothing stopping you from using your own creative license. The sets have appealed to people of all ages and all backgrounds. We are happy to say that Lego is finally releasing the set, Lego women of NASA.

The new set

The new Lego Set will be released on November 1. The set has 231 pieces and will sell for roughly $25. The set features two prominent female astronauts, Sally Ride, the first female American astronaut, and Mae Jemison, the first black woman to be an astronaut.

American computer scientist Margaret Hamilton and astronomer and educator Nancy Grace Roman will be included in the set as well.

The actual pieces that can be built in the set are really cool. You can build the Hubble Space Telescope and the Challenger space shuttle. The set also includes a tiny version of Hamilton's workspace at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she programmed the software for the moon landing.

The set is almost essential for any child wanting to learn about space travel but wanting to play as well. An employee for MIT, Maia Weinstock, came up with the idea for this set. In a Lego news release, Weinstock said she would love to see children who played with the new Lego Women of NASA set to pursue careers in math, science, engineering, and technology.

She has high hopes that the first person Mars will be a woman as well.

Why is this important?

A Lego set dedicated to women who worked for NASA doesn't necessarily seem like a super important topic to be covering. However, it's an extremely important topic to bring up. Many people don't learn about the women who worked so hard on space trips for NASA.

For younger girls who enjoy things like engineering, science, math, technology, and space travel, this set could be extremely influential to them. There's definitely this idea that women aren't as scientifically-able as men, and this set proves that idea wrong.

It has taken quite a long time for many women who were and are scientists to gain recognition.

The movie "Hidden Figures" first brought out that fact and shined a light on the many African American women who worked for NASA. Since then, there's been a rise in educating people about the other countless women who have done a lot of scientific work. The hope is to not only bring much needed recognition to these women, but to inspire other women and girls to follow their dreams, no matter what is expected of them. It would be truly amazing for the first person on Mars to be a woman.
