More people are born in the United States on #September 16 than any other day of the year, according to research and data compiled in a study conducted at Harvard University that was published in the New York Times. That same data shows that September is the busiest month for births.

The winter months of December, January, and February are the least common for babies to be born. The least popular days for births are December 25, January 1, and February 29. July 4 is also not a popular #Birthday. This is not to say that no babies are born on those dates. According to statistics, those dates are just not as popular as #September 16.

Harvard economist Amitabh Chandra designed a graph that shows the data.

Reasons for the popular date

Scientists have come up with several reasons why they think more babies are born on that date or dates close to it. Some state that the range could be between September 9 and September 20 with September 16 being the main date.

There are several theories for September 16 being the most popular date for babies to be born. Paul Sutton, statistician for the Center for Disease Control, suggests that cold weather causes people to stay inside and cuddle up. Then, nine months later a baby is born. Matt Stiles of The Daily Viz confirmed that September is the most popular month for the birth of a baby because December is the most common month for conception, especially around the holidays.

Scientific theory

There is no 100 percent accuracy when it comes to really knowing why so many babies are conceived in winter and born in autumn.

However, a study published in Obstetrics & Gynecology has some scientific theories. One theory is that while sperm quality deteriorates during the summer, it increases later. Also, there is a theory that there is an increase in sexual activity around the holidays when people get extra intimate with their mates.

Celebrities' birthdays

More than likely you have someone in your family who was born on September 16 or close to that date. If not in your family, you probably know someone with that birthday. Celebrities born on the sixteenth day of the ninth month include actress Amy Poehler, singer Nick Jonas, model Alexis Bledel, actress Lauren Bacall, singer Flo Rida, singer Marc Anthony, singer Sabrina Bryant, illusionist David Copperfield, deceased singer B.B. King, and deceased television pastor Dr. Robert H. Schuller. As you can see, the list is long.
