Phlegm is a liquid secreted from the mucous membranes of humans. It is produced due to abnormalities in the respiratory system and leads to a severe cough, comma, diabetes, and genetic disorders. Phlegm is a water-based gel consisting of immunoglobins, glycoproteins, and lipids.

Factors that contribute to the disease are smoking, air pollution, a lack of sleep, unhealthy diet, and others. A study published by the American College of Chest Physicians reveals that phlegm contains viruses, bacteria, and inflammatory cells. It can lead to allergic reactions, high fever, damaged vocal cord, and other complications.

Saltwater

Gargling with salt water is an excellent way to prevent and treat phlegm. Mix three tablespoons of table salt with a cup of hot water. Stir for a few minutes, and gargle with this solution thrice per day. Repeat the remedy for several weeks to get relief.

Lemon juice

No doubt, lemon is an excellent treatment for loosening mucus and phlegm. It is known for its antifungal, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties. Lemons are a rich source of vitamin C and boost the immunity. It improves body’s residence to viruses and bacteria.

Add three tablespoons of Lemon Juice to two teaspoons of honey. Include some water to this mixture, and prepare a solution.

Drink it for three to four days, or until you see improvements. Alternatively, you can cut two slices of lemon, and sprinkle a little bit of black pepper and salt on it. Then massage on your throat for several minutes, and repeat the process for at least seven days.

Ginger

Ginger is one of the most powerful remedies to fight phlegm.

It acts as a natural decongestant and has a lot of health benefits. Ginger fight a sore throat and prevents respiratory disorders years after years. The antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and expectorant properties present in this ingredient makes it ideal for human health.

Add three tablespoons of crushed ginger to a glass of hot water.

Steep for several minutes, and then include two tablespoons of honey. Drink the mixture thrice per day and repeat the process for two weeks to get relief.

Turmeric

Turmeric ha strong antibacterial and antiseptic properties. It helps reduce a sore throat, phlegm, and colds. Turmeric Powder is good for human health; it kills the viruses and bacteria that cause the illness. It is also good for bone health and prevents obesity.

Add three tablespoons of turmeric powder to a cup of boiling water. Drink the solution twice per day for better results. Alternatively, you can add two teaspoons of turmeric powder to one cup of milk, and drink it every night before going to bed.
