A sinus is an air-filled space inside the forehead, cheekbones, and behind the bridges of your nose. It gets inflamed due to allergic reactions and viral infections. Sinuses swell, make excessive mucus, and can lead to the blocked blood vessels. The continuous build-up of pressure in the sinuses can cause a headache (called as a sinus headache).

Early symptoms of the disease are a runny nose, feelings of fullness in the ears, swelling, fever, migraines, and others. Doctors recommend a lot of antibiotics to treat the disease; the most common medicines for a sinus headache are decongestants, antihistamines, and corticosteroids.

But you should not use any drug without the recommendation of your health care professional. A headache from sinusitis is often mistaken with a migraine or tension headaches. The following remedies can prevent and cure the disease to a greater extent.

Apple cider vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar has excellent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It helps reduce the mucus inflammation and improves the blood circulation in the body. Plus, regular use of apple cider vinegar helps prevent a sinus headache, depression, anxiety, and stress like problems.

It helps thin out mucus, making it easy to drain the congestion. Add three tablespoons of unfiltered apple cider vinegar to a glass of hot water.

Drink this solution twice per day for better results. You can also include a few drops of lemon juice and raw honey to enhance its taste.

Peppermint oil

Peppermint Oil contains antioxidants, menthol, and other nutrients that help relieve sinus congestion. It has strong decongestant and anti-inflammatory properties. Regular massage of peppermint oil helps get rid of headaches, depression, anxiety, and stress.

Take a few drops of the oil and rub the forehead using your fingertips. Repeat the process four to five times a week, or until you see improvements. Alternatively, you can add two tablespoons of peppermint oil to one teaspoon of honey and two teaspoons of lemon juice. Prepare a mixture, and consume it every night before going to sleep.

Inhale steam

Boil some water in a large bowl, and add a few drops of lemon juice, almond oil, and olive oil to it. Steam is one of the most efficient ways to treat sinus headaches at home. Steam inhalation calms your mucous membrane and helps clear the congestion in the nose.

Also, it prevents various health problems such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Inhale the steam at least three times a day for better results; repeat the process for seven to ten days or until you see improvements.
