Cats have always been treasured by human kind and there has always been a question surrounding their intelligence. Many believe that cats are extremely intelligent creatures and are sure there is some kind of semblance of human thought going on behind those inquisitive eyes. Over the years, many studies have been carried out revealing much about cats' intelligence.

Cats' brains are complex and similar to human brains

According to scientific reports in the journal, Behavioral Processes, it has been discovered that cat brains are in part similar to human brains.

Cats have some of the exact same structures found in the human brain like white and grey matter. Further examples of these are the four lobes, frontal, occipital, temporal and parietal. Not only that but these parts of the brains are connected in the same ways that they are in the human brain.

Humans are known for processing information according to patterns. It is believed that cats also share this ability. Through scientific Research carried out by study author Saho Takagi, a psychologist at Kyoto University, it has been proven that much like dogs, cats respond to human gestures, facial and otherwise and they respond to emotions. Cats have been proven to pick up certain behaviors in order to communicate with people about their needs and desires.

How cats differ from other animals like dogs

#Cats think and act differently to other animals such as dogs as they do not have the pack instinct. Cats are independent animals and will hunt, feed and groom themselves. There is more research carried out on dogs, and other animals, because cats do not care much for co-operating with people making it difficult to get accurate results.

Cats do not act in a cause-reward basis because they can provide suitably for themselves. If it doesn't interest them then it will be difficult to keep their attention for long periods of time.

This is because cats are wary of humans and come to trust them through socializing. This in itself is evident proof of how cats thought system works and how it influences their behavior.

As cats do not work within the pack mind-set, they will also seek out territory and mark it for themselves. This territory is theirs alone and they will defend it from other animals.

There is definitely more research that is required for this area to prove is cats are more intelligent than dogs. However, for now it has been proved that they have equal smarts. One can hope that there will be further research into this area that will prove what cat lovers world already know, cats are some of the smartest animals on the planet.
